Networking with the right people – Sphinn

A fabulous new site has been launched by Danny Sullivan – the site is called Sphinn (pronounced Spin) and it’s a Social, News and Networking site for the Search industry. Danny started Search Engine Land with the idea that it reflected a community, a place where people could meet, chat and network. The limitation of Search Engine Land was that it wasn’t very easy to comment on particular stories and news. According to Danny Sullivan, the man himself - Sphinn was designed for everyone to share and comment on news stories about search and interactive marketing using a voting model. The more votes, the more popular a story becomes.
It really is a great concept and I have a feeling that it is going to do exceptionally well. Randfish has described Sphinn as a “social site” that is not going to fizzle away anytime soon. It already has succeeded in doing what other social networking sites have failed at or never quiet got right. It’s only a few weeks old, yet it’s already been dubbed as a “A unique, dedicated social networking site for Search marketers”. The site is easy to use and navigate with a clean, clear design. Like a pimped up Facebook for the Search Marketing world
Sphinn has already attracted some of the biggest and most well known Search Marketing contributors, meaning that there will be some very important eyes on you. The approach is that anyone can participate as long as your content is in some way or means of value to the audience. The more votes and traffic you attract to your post, the more popular it becomes and this will attain you a highly sought after spot in the “Hot topics” area of the site. This is the area you see first when you go to the Sphinn site. It’s not hard to become popular; it’s all about your approach and getting others to recognise your contribution as meaningful.
This brings me to one of the main reasons why I feel that this platform is going to be so powerful. This is because “early adopters have a chance to stand out”. Randfish mentioned this as his 9th point in his blog and I fully agree, because Sphinn is so new and fresh, it is already drawing a whole lot of the right attention. Everyone has the opportunity to get involved and be noticed.
So for all those that have been quietly watching from the sidelines for so long, Sphinn brings you an opportunity to have your voice heard. It is a great time to jump on the Search bandwagon, it’s a “Hot Potato”, and Search is generating an increasing amount of interest outside the Search industry. There a lot of fascination and attention being directed towards SEO amongst companies and agencies. People are actively interested in getting their website rankings up and more and more are looking at SEO agencies for advice and guidance.
With sufficient interaction, involvement and contribution by all, this site will go “Big” and become an invaluable platform and resource for all Search Marketers.
