SEO is teamwork

There are many companies who outsource their SEO (search engine optimisation) requirements; sometimes fully or sometimes partially, but some may not fully understand the benefits of hiring an SEO company to take care of things versus having a dedicated, internal SEO division or person. There are many fly-by-night SEO companies offering discounts and specials and fringe benefits, while the real cost of an SEO campaign all really depends on the clients being involved and the agreement between them and the respective SEO companies. Project scope, website technology, market competition, client-side resources and billable hours are all factors that could influence the cost and efficacy of an SEO campaign.
Companies who outsource their SEO efforts regularly scoff at the cost of having month-by-month SEO services without really understanding all the processes that search engine marketing (SEM) entails. Internal SEOs tend to be project managers rather than implementation specialists. They are often assigned with various other tasks, which take focus off the SEO effort and unnecessarily compound their workload.
What companies do not grasp is that SEO is a team effort. It incorporates various disciplines, expertise and a huge team effort in order to be successful. This is what makes SEO companies so relevant. The true value of outsourced SEO companies lies within their team structure and work ethic.
SEO as a service includes (but is not limited to) the following areas of focus: keyword research, development, web design, copywriting, link building, analytics, and social media marketing. To find one person who is proficient in all these criteria is highly unlikely. Hiring an experienced, efficient SEO company suddenly does not seem like too bad an idea.
Cases do exist where a single internal SE optimiser is all that is required for a particular SEO campaign. Minor website changes and updates can be effected from within. But for larger projects and higher stakes, it seems logical to buy in the experience and expertise of professionals who practice their expertise on a daily basis. Through many previous projects, you can be assured that the SEO company has decent processes in place and can ensure a concerted effort from an entire team, as opposed so one person who is winging it and hoping for the best.
This is the dynamic I enjoy at MediaVision. Since joining the team I can recognise and appreciate what goes into a successful SEO campaign, from start to finish. No one person is more important than the rest of the team. When the team members compliment one another, as is the case, then the pressure of ensuring that the best product or service is given to the client is a mere formality.
