Counteracting Wikipedia vandalism

Monday, January 14th, 2008

Wikipedia has become one of the largest and most frequently used information sources on the Internet. More often than not, when typing in keywords for your search, Google comes up with a Wikipedia option near the top of the list. One of the features that makes Wikipedia unique in the world of search, and one of the reasons that it`s so popular, is the fact that articles can be edited and have information added by anyone interested in doing so.

Let Google know what country you are from

Tuesday, November 13th, 2007

Google Webmaster Tools has officially launched a new tool that helps us better control the country- association of our content. The information you will be giving Google will help determine how youyour site appears in country-specific search results, which in turn will also improve the search results for specific geographic queries.

Amanda Camp, engineer with Webmaster Tools, claims that although Google does its best to determine the location of sites and rank them appropriately, it sometimes leads to problems. There have been plenty of concerns from webmasters, and Google has been working hard to come up with a solution to make life easier for them, while safeguarding searchers as well.

Tuesday, October 30th, 2007

A new online marketing community has been launched which promises to be the next big thing in social media. Gooruze is the first online marketing community where content is both created and rated by its members. The platform is the same as the successful Minti.com, which is a community for parents.

The site combines the elements of already successful social media sites, such as Digg, Sphinn, Webmasters World and SEOmoz. They are the first online communities to make online marketing accessible to users. They have merged various social media components into the website.

YouTube targets piracy

Friday, October 26th, 2007

YouTube released a Video Identification tool last week. This move will help kerb the increasing piracy issues that YouTube faces on a regular basis. Finally, a concrete policy on Video piracy is in the pipelines.

According to Dan King from YouTube:

The system works by creating a database full of abstract images of copyrighted videos that are then matched with videos that are uploaded to YouTube.

YouTube is currently working with Google to filter its technology of identifying the ownership of videos uploaded in YouTube. They are giving video content owners the ability to manage their videos, and the choice on what to do with these Videos once they have been properly identified.

Media for the eyes and ears

Tuesday, October 16th, 2007

Most text media, in fact most media in general, which is uploaded to the web, is tagged with metadata. This is so that it can be found easily on traditional search engines. But more and more innovative and creative companies are looking at new ways of uploading and searching for data in order to more fully involve all the senses. They want to make the way in which we search on the net seem more like the way in which we sort through and assimilate the world around us.

HR SEO a new weapon in reducing cost per hire

Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

MVISearch has just formed a new joint venture with employersjobs.com to address the fact that most blue chip companies are not effectively using search to improve their direct recruitment strategy. With agency recruitment fees spiraling there has never be a better time to harness the power of search to reduce cost per hire and promote your employer brand awareness.

However firstly it`s a good idea to cover the basics.

What is HR-SEO?
HR-SEO is the art of making sure your direct recruitment website or campaign site is at the top of all search engines for all job titles in all locations. The result is effectively removing the over reliance on job boards and harnessing the traffic generation power of search.

Revolutionising mobile search and tracking, QR codes

Wednesday, October 3rd, 2007

Generally speaking, people are lazy. A lot of people will Google something rather than type in the URL. It`s a bit silly but at one point or another, we all do it.

If you are out and about and need to browse the Internet from your phone, more often than not, you can`t remember the URL and it`s just more of a mission than its worth to guess. When time is of the essence and you need that info pronto, it would be awesome if there was a way that that you could point your phone in the direction of the restaurant, bar, hotel and it would automatically take you to the review or website.

Mash - Yahoo`s new social networking site to rival Facebook

Wednesday, September 26th, 2007

Yahoo is busy testing an experimental social network service called Mash, of which the aim is to make it easier for Yahoo users to interact with friends and family online.

The site, which began an invitation- only preview on Friday, is very similar to Facebook, but with one new “significant” feature - users can edit each other`s profiles, redecorating, changing information, and adding features.

Mobile marketing in modern society

Tuesday, September 25th, 2007

I was surfing the net at work the other day, as one does, searching for interesting news postings. There was a very interesting post about A US senator who is suing god, nominally to demonstrate the frivolity of civil court cases in a litigious society. It made for fascinating and amusing reading. Presumably because god is omniscient he knows about the proceedings and doesn’t need a subpoena. But I’m not going to write about a god suing senator, I’m going to write about mobile marketing, also an interesting subject and whether or not it will work in modern society.

Got to get some SEO - latest hits

Thursday, September 13th, 2007

MVI works tirelessly to ensure your voice is heard in the massive Internet arena. And although we rely on our minds rather than our voices to get a point across, we`re proud to testify to our dedication for SEO. Forthwith, the SEO team has released its first hit song, which, if not the new Smells Like Teen Spirit, is guaranteed to get top Google rankings.

With Phil (Spectre) on vocals, Dylan (Bob) on drums Anthony (Lommi) on guitar and James (Hendrix) on sound, this newest SEO venture is truly ground breaking. The lilting lead croons, “If I could purchase Google, I`d sell my soul”, implying more than a simple interest in online marketing.
