Also dubbed as “The greatest conspiracy in SEM history”…
I have been thoroughly enjoying all the rambling going on over at Pandia, There is a very interesting dispute brewing due to the uncertainty around the true origin of Sphinn. Perkoch got the ball rolling by comparing Sphinn to Dan Browns, “Da Vinci code”
Perkoch delves deep into the enigma that is Sphinn in a very insightful yet funny rationalisation as to why the name Shpinn derives from somewhere else altogether.
Danny Sullivan, the founder of the Sphinn phenomenon claims that the name Sphinn is a variant of Spin as the spin.com domain being taken.
Perkoch argues that this can`t be true, and is just another example of how people in high positions try to fool those less fortunate in life. He says that there must be a hidden and more sinister reason for choosing this name.
It all started off with Danny`s suggestion that Sphinn is to be pronounced /spin/ like in English “spin”. But Perkoch contends that if that was the case, why did he choose to replace P with Ph?Ph is not a representation for F. It clearly represents the Greek letter PHI (Φ), a labio-labial or bilabial fricative found in ancient Greek, which in modern Greek and English is pronounced as F. Hence the proper pronunciation of Sphinn would be /sfin/ (cp. Phillips).
From this point on, the theory unwinds with hilarious concept ideas and assumptions, this sparked Cattmutts to add his account of how Sphinn spun about.
It`s a worthwhile read. Catch it all here.
